Nyx did not do parties. She did not do teams, did not do partnerships, did not do any of that hand-holding nonsense that weaker adventurers relied on to get through dungeons they had no business entering in the first place. She was a hellhound, seven feet of black fur and red eyes and muscle that could snap a man's spine with a casual squeeze. Her claws left grooves in stone when she walked. Her fangs could punch through plate armor. The battleaxe strapped to her back weighed more than most humans could lift with both hands, its blade chipped from cutting through things that blades were not meant to cut through. She wore heavy iron pauldrons over her shoulders, a chainmail vest across her chest that barely contained the swell of her breasts, thick leather boots that went up past her knees. No helmet because nothing had ever hit her hard enough in the head to make her think she needed one. She found the village on the edge of the Ashfall Mountains, a sad little collection of wooden buildings surrounding a well that had probably been dry for years. The people there looked at her the way most people looked at hellhounds, with fear first, then relief when they realized she was not there to eat them. The job board outside the tavern had one posting that caught her attention. Multiple adventuring parties had entered a dungeon in the hills to the north, full teams of five or six with mages and healers and all the support roles Nyx considered dead weight. None of them came back. The reward was generous. She tore the posting off the board, stuffed it in her belt and headed north without bothering to buy supplies. The dungeon was a joke. Narrow stone corridors filled with traps she could smell before she triggered them, undead soldiers she ripped apart with her bare hands because drawing the axe felt like overkill. Cobwebs thick enough to slow a human barely registered against her fur. Poison darts bounced off her chainmail. She moved through room after room, leaving a trail of destroyed monsters behind her, not even breathing hard, wondering how any party could have possibly struggled with this place. Then she reached the final chamber. It was enormous. Cathedral ceilings held up by pillars of black stone, torches burning with purple flame along the walls, a floor of polished obsidian that reflected her image back at her like dark water. In the center of the room stood a woman. Red skin the color of fresh blood, black hair that fell past her waist in a glossy curtain, two curved horns rising from her forehead like a crown. She wore nothing but shadows that clung to her body in strategic places, leaving the rest of her exposed. Full breasts, wide hips, a long pointed tail that swayed behind her with lazy confidence. Her eyes glowed white, no pupils, just light. "Another one," the demoness said. Her voice was calm, almost bored. She did not even look up from her nails, which she was examining with mild interest. 'This one smells like wet dog and overconfidence… how tedious.' "Where are the adventurers?" Nyx growled. Her claws flexed at her sides. Her red eyes locked onto the demon with the intensity of a predator sizing up prey. "Around." The demoness gestured vaguely at the room. "They served their purpose. Found new ones, actually. Much more fitting for their talents." "I don't care about riddles." Nyx reached over her shoulder, grabbed the handle of her battleaxe, pulled it free with a metallic rasp that echoed off every wall. "Fight me or move." The demoness finally looked at her. Those white eyes traveled slowly from Nyx's boots to her ears, taking in every inch of muscle and fur and barely contained aggression. A smile spread across her red face, showing sharp white teeth. "You are a big one… strong and rough." She tilted her head. "I wonder what you would feel like soft~" Nyx charged. Three steps was all it took to close the distance, her massive frame covering ground faster than anything that size should be able to move. She swung the axe in a horizontal arc aimed at the demon's neck, putting enough force behind it to cut a horse in half. The magic hit her mid-swing. It was not like any spell she had encountered before. No bolt of energy, no visible projectile, no warning at all. One moment, she was swinging her axe with killing intent, the next her entire body locked up as something flooded through her from the inside out. It felt like warm water filling every vein, every muscle, every bone. Her grip on the axe loosened because her fingers were getting softer, the hard calloused pads of her paws turning plush. "Nnnngh~ what... what did you DO to me~" Her voice came out wrong, lighter, thinner and losing its growl. Her legs buckled, not from weakness but because her knees were dissolving, the joints softening into something that could not support weight anymore. She hit the obsidian floor face-first with her heavy equipment crashing down on top of her. The battleaxe landed across her back, its rough iron edge
