(Commission cap for quad2) The crowd at AnimeExpo Los Angeles buzzed with excitement, a sea of twenty thousand fans packed into the convention center's main arena. The air smelled of perfume, sweat and anticipation. Overhead lights dimmed, leaving only the electric-blue glow of lightsticks. Aimi Star, America's fastest-rising idol sensation, walked up onto the stage. Her glossy purple hair swung in perfect rhythm as she gripped the microphone, flashing a smile that had launched a thousand merchandise lines. "Hello Los Angeles!" she shouted. "I am sooooo happy to see you all!" The crowd erupted. Front row fans, mostly male and overweight, wearing shirts with her face plastered across their chests, screamed her name until their voices cracked. One particularly enthusiastic fan, Darren, clutched his limited-edition Aimi plushie while jumping up and down, his glasses fogging with exertion. "Are you ready to have the best night ever?" Aimi's voice rang through the speakers. The first song began, bass thumping through the floor, vibrating up through the soles of everyone's feet. Aimi's choreography was flawless, every hip move, every finger gesture executed with perfect timing that had made her famous all over America. Three songs in, drenched in sweat but still beaming, Aimi launched into her biggest hit, 'Sparkling Heartbeat.' The crowd chanted each word back to her. The arena temperature had risen several degrees from body heat alone. That's when it happened. Midway through the song, a strange sensation rippled through the arena. Not a sound, more like pressure dropping suddenly, as if twenty thousand ears popped simultaneously. Aimi faltered mid-lyric. The backing track continued but her voice stopped. A woman in section C screamed. Not a fan-scream but something primal, terrified. Aimi felt a strange tickle around her neck, warmth spreading like spilled water. The microphone slipped from her fingers, hitting the stage with a thunderous boom through the speakers. Her vision swam, doubled, then stabilized in a horrifying new perspective. She was looking at her own body from outside it. "Unnnngh!" The sound escaped her lips involuntarily as she realized her head had detached completely from her shoulders. More screaming erupted throughout the arena as others experienced the same phenomenon. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of heads separating from bodies and being caught by their bodies. Aimi's head did the same thing. She stared up at herself, at her own arms cradling her head, but she couldn't feel those arms anymore. They weren't hers to command. "What... what's happening?" she gasped, her voice thin and reedy without lungs to power it. How was she even speaking? Her body looked down at her, eyes still animate but different, somehow emptier yet purposeful. The body simply placed her gently on the stage floor. Aimi watched in horror as her own body turned and walked away, legs moving with the same practiced grace that had carried her through countless performances. It disappeared backstage without a backward glance. "Wait, you can’t just walk away! I am your fucking driver!" Aimi shouted uselessly from the floor of the stage. All around the arena, bodies stood holding their former heads. Some put there head down or simply letting them drop. Others screamed from the floor. Security personnel rushed the stage only to separate mid-stride, their own heads falling into their hands. The concert dissolved into chaos. Medical personnel attempted to help but quickly realized no blood flowed from these clean separations. The headless bodies moved with their own purpose, some wandering away, others sitting down calmly as if waiting for instructions. Hours later, a makeshift shelter was established in the convention center. Scientists, doctors, and government officials swarmed the building, all keeping their distance from the separated heads. News crews reported from outside, speculating wildly about terrorist attacks, chemical weapons, or mass hallucinations. Aimi's head sat on a table in what had been the merch booth, surrounded by unsold t-shirts bearing her image. A technician had rigged a small speaker system that somehow allowed her to speak more normally, though nobody understood how. "I want my fucking perfect cute body back," she told the harried FEMA official interviewing her. "Where the hell did it go?" "We're tracking all displaced bodies," the woman said, though her clipboard contained nothing but frantic doodles. "The phenomenon appears widespread but concentrated to this event. We're still establishing protocols." Through the night, more reports filtered in. The separation had affected approximately eighteen thousand people at the concert. Most bodies had wandered away. Some heads had been lost in the chaos, trampled or kicked under seats. The lucky ones, like Aimi, had been collected and cataloged. News helicopters circled outside, broadcasting live footage of headless bodies walking calmly down Los Angeles st
