Vance knew he had fucked up the moment Melissa's face hardened that day three months ago. Her normally warm blue eyes had turned to ice when he'd casually mentioned her peculiar birthmark during drinks with their friends. "It looks exactly like Australia," he'd laughed. "Right there on her inner thigh," practically touching her there! The relationship had ended that night. But Vance couldn't stop his mouth from running like wildfire. To Marc at the gym: "Dude, she's got this birthmark right by her pussy that's shaped like a continent." To coworkers at happy hour: "She'd get so wet you could practically swim to that little Australia down there." When Melissa texted after weeks of silence, Vance felt vindicated. 'I miss you. Can we talk about trying again? My place, 8 pm?' Vance arrived with a smirk stretching across his angular face. Melissa greeted him at the door of her apartment, her blue eyes unreadable beneath her sleek bob cut. "I knew you'd come crawling back," Vance said, strutting into her living room. "Nobody fucks you like I do, right?" Melissa's lips curled upward. "Nobody talks like you do, that's for sure." She reached into her pocket and withdrew a small pouch. "Can you hold this for a second?" "What is it?" Vance asked, extending his hand. Melissa upended the pouch, sprinkling fine white powder across his palm and fingers. "What the fu..." Vance inhaled sharply in surprise, drawing some of the dust into his nostrils. He sneezed violently. "What is this shit?" "White towel," Melissa whispered. A peculiar sensation bloomed across Vance's skin... goosebumps erupting everywhere at once. But these weren't normal goosebumps; they swelled and spread, merging together like tiny mountains connecting into ranges. "What's happening?" Vance gasped, staring in horror as his forearms began to shorten, pulling inward toward his torso. "Melissa! What did you fuck..." His voice cut off abruptly, though his mouth remained open in a silent scream. His vocal cords simply stopped producing sound. Melissa circled him slowly, those cold blue eyes drinking in his terror with undisguised pleasure. "Having trouble getting the words out? That's new for you." Panic exploded through Vance's mind as he watched his arms disappear completely into his chest. He tried to run, but his legs buckled beneath him. The floor rushed up to meet him... except he didn't crash against it. Instead, he seemed to settle onto it, spreading outward rather than falling down. Melissa nudged his discarded briefs with her toe, then kicked them aside along with his jeans, socks, and shoes, empty garments now with nobody to fill them. From his increasingly horizontal perspective, Vance caught glimpses of his lower body, no longer legs and feet, but a fabric, widening further into a pristine white material. His consciousness screamed questions his nonexistent mouth couldn't ask. His viewpoint descended rapidly as whatever remained of his head and face lost dimension. Darkness enveloped him momentarily, then a strange awareness spread throughout what had once been his body. He could somehow sense his entirety flat, rectangular, soft and absorbent. Coldness penetrated his new form. Not a temperature he felt on his skin, but a coldness that seemed to be his very essence now. It felt wrong, horrible, alien. Then the sensation of being lifted. "Oh, look at you," Melissa's voice came from above. "You have no mouth, but you want to scream, right? So sad." Vance tried to scream, to curse, to beg, but there was nothing. "You know," she continued, her tone conversational, "I didn't want to do this. It's just that you talk too much. You told Marc about my birthmark near my crotch, and he was just some random dude to you." Air rushed through Vance's fibers as Melissa held him up, examining her handiwork. The sensation was terrifying he could feel the air passing through him, confirming his impossible new reality. "Look, maybe you get it now, but I guess not," she said with a shrug. "You are a fucking towel. Yes, I turned you into an object. And what? Cry about it? Oh wait, you can't. No tears when you've been telling bullshit about me to everyone." She folded him roughly. "Let's give you some nap time." Darkness again as Melissa stuffed him into her purse. Time passed strangely in this new existence, with his consciousness fading in and out without true sleep. When awareness returned fully, Vance sensed a change in his environment. The air felt moist, warm, different. Pleasant, almost, to his fiber-based senses. Hands grasped him again. They were Melissa's hands pulling him from the purse. Her smile was different now, less vengeful and more... anticipatory. "Time for your new job," she announced. Without warning, she pressed Vance against her arm and began wiping. The sensation was indescribable, her warm skin sliding across what had once been his face, his chest, and his entire self. Moisture transferred from her skin into his absorbent form. He was... collec
