Bean got home from work a full three hours before his wife Mia, would finish her shift, which meant the apartment was entirely his to do with as he pleased. They had been married for about three years now, both of them pulling good salaries that kept the place nice, him working as a consultant with flexible hours that sometimes let him leave early on quiet days. The first thing he did when he walked through the door was kick off his shoes in two different directions, one landing under the coffee table and the other somehow ending up near the kitchen. The second thing he did was grab the big bag of chips from the corner shelf, the spicy ones that left orange dust on everything they touched, rip it open without getting a bowl because bowls meant dishes, then collapse onto the couch with his legs spread wide across the cushions. He was a slob. A complete, unapologetic, and deeply committed slob. This was the quality that Mia hated most about him and the quality he put the least effort into changing because, in his mind mess was just the natural state of a lived-in space. Within forty minutes, the apartment looked like a small tornado had passed through. Chip crumbs scattered across the couch cushions, falling into the cracks between them, dusting the floor in a trail from the kitchen to the living room. He had opened a soda that fizzed over onto the coffee table because he cracked it too fast. His jacket was draped over a dining chair, his work bag dumped in the middle of the hallway, a plate from a quick sandwich sitting on the counter with crumbs and a knife still covered in mayo. He did not care. He was watching videos on his phone, laughing at something stupid, shoving chips into his mouth with orange-stained fingers while the apartment descended further into chaos around him. His black hair was messy, his white t-shirt already had a new stain on it from the soda and his blue eyes were locked on the screen without a thought in his head about the state of his surroundings. Hours passed until finally the front door opened. Mia stood in the entrance holding her work bag, her keys still in her hand, taking in the scene with blue eyes that went from tired to furious in about two seconds flat. She was pretty in a sharp way, short black hair with a streak of blue on one side, pale skin and a compact body that she kept fit through sheer willpower. She looked at the chip crumbs on the floor. At the soda stain on the table. At the shoes in two different corners. At her husband, lying on the couch like a beached whale, surrounded by orange dust. Her face went dark. Bean saw her expression and his own face twisted into that familiar scramble for excuses, his brain cycling through options like a slot machine trying to land on something that would save him. "Bean..." Her voice was flat and controlled. The kind of control that meant she was holding back something much louder. "What did we say about making a mess in the apartment?" He sat up slightly, brushing chip crumbs off his shirt onto the couch, which only made things worse. "It is fine if I clean it, right? That is what we said." Mia looked around the apartment. The total disaster had accumulated in just a few hours. "Then clean it." "I will clean it later, Mia. I just want to relax for a bit first." 'Later!? It is always later. Later never comes because he does not see the mess, even when he is standing in it!' She had heard this exact excuse hundreds of times over three years of marriage. He would say later, then later would turn into tomorrow, then tomorrow he would do a half job that missed most of the actual dirt because Bean genuinely could not see trash when it was right in front of him. She always ended up cleaning because living in filth was not something she could tolerate, no matter how many times they had the same argument. She pulled out her phone. The Change Me app was already installed, had been for a few months now, since she found it through a friend of a friend who swore it was real. She had never used it on Bean before. Had thought about it plenty of times, but never actually done it. Tonight was different. Tonight, she was done negotiating. "Okay," she said, her thumb moving across the screen with purpose. "If you want to be stubborn like always, let me change the situation a little bit!" "What are you doing on your phone? Mia, come on, I said I would clean it la..." His words cut off as a wave of heat rolled through his body from head to toe. Something was happening. Something was very wrong. His chest felt tight, then full, then HEAVY. He looked down and watched two bumps push outward from behind his white t-shirt, growing rapidly, stretching the fabric. Nipples formed, pressing against the cotton, visible and stiff. "What the FUCK..." His voice cracked, going higher mid-sentence. His face was changing, the square jaw softening, the stubble dissolving into smooth skin, his features rearranging into something rounder, smaller and prettier. His
