It always hummed, a low buzzing sound like a fridge that never shut off and Tina had stopped hearing it months ago the same way you stop hearing your own heartbeat. A long time had already passed. She was pretty sure it was months. At first she thought it was a dream, some fever thing, because the hallways looked like somebody copied a real office building and pasted it wrong. Doors opened into walls. Carpet ran up the ceiling in some rooms. The deeper she went, the more broken it got, like corrupted data, like a photo saved too many times until the colors bled. The food tasted like wet paper and the water tasted like pennies, but it kept her alive and somehow all of it became normal. That was the scary part. It became normal. Then the shop appeared. It sat in the middle of a hallway where no shop had been the day before, glass windows glowing warm and soft. A sign above the door read "Silky Mysteries" in curly pink letters. Her old clothes were rags at this point, stiff with dried sweat and torn at both knees, so she went in without thinking twice. Racks of clothes stretched back further than the room should allow. She grabbed a shirt, some pants. Then she saw the display near the register and her stomach dropped. Lingerie. Black lace bra and panties in a clear plastic box, and printed on the front in blocky letters: "TINA EDITION" With her photo on it. Her own face, smiling in a way she never smiled, wearing the black lace set, posing with her hands on her chest. 'That's me. That is literally me!?' She put the box down fast, like it burned her. This place did weird stuff, she told herself. It copied things wrong. It probably copied her too. She had more important things to do. She had to find an exit. She left the shop and never looked back. But her body started acting strange after that. Food stopped mattering. She would go a whole day without eating and feel nothing, no hunger, no thirst, just a light floaty feeling like her insides were emptying out and being replaced with air. And the boxes kept appearing. On shelves and the floor of empty rooms. Propped against the humming walls. "TINA EDITION" Again and again. Each new box she found, the photo got weirder. Her smile got wider. Her skin got shinier, softer looking, less like skin. The boxes were always empty inside, just molded plastic where lingerie should sit. The monsters stopped reacting to her too. She rounded a corner once and walked straight past one of the tall shrieking things and it looked right through her, like she was furniture, like she was nothing. That should have terrified her. Instead she felt tired. She was always so tired now, so sleepy, her legs moving on autopilot through the yellow halls. 'When did I last eat? When did I last drink anything?' She could not remember. Days or maybe a week. Her heart should be pounding at that thought, but it just fluttered soft, like fabric in a breeze. Then she found the newest box. The photo made her stop breathing. It was not her anymore, not really. It was a woman shaped thing standing in a bedroom, a person made entirely out of black lace and silky fabric, hollow, no skin at all, just cloth in the shape of Tina. "That looks ridiculous," she said out loud, and her voice sounded thin and rustly in her own ears. She set the box down and rubbed her eyes. 'Wait. I've been walking for days without eating and I haven't cared at all. That is not normal. Maybe I need to calm down. Maybe I need to just... rest.' Her vision was blurry at the edges. When she looked down at her hands they seemed dark, black almost, the skin gone smooth and matte with a lacy pattern crawling up her wrists. 'Just tired. Just a dream thing. Just my eyes.' She found a bedroom that was not too distorted, a real bed with a real mattress and a tall mirror against the wall and she lay down and let go. Oh, it felt good. It felt so good it should have scared her. Her whole body unwound like the best massage in the world, every bone going soft, every muscle melting warm and loose, a deep sweet unraveling that pulled her down into sleep like a hand pulling a thread. "Mmmm~" she sighed and even her sigh sounded like sliding silk. She woke up who knows how long later. Her vision was clear now. Crystal clear. But she could not move. The mirror across the room showed the bed. And on the bed lay something flat. A flat black shape, two pieces of it, lace edged, thin as paper. 'Okay… okay... This place has trick mirrors. I've seen weird mirrors before. Please be a trick mirror.' She strained. Pushed with everything she had. In the mirror, the black fabric twitched. Lifted a little. Fell flat again. **FWIP** That was her. That flat silky thing lifting and falling was her body responding to her. She should have screamed. She should have gone insane right there. Instead there was only confusion, soft and distant, because it felt so natural, laying flat, being light, being fabric. And sh
